KnowDish: UK meal-prep comparison

An independent comparison platform for finding the UK meal-prep service that fits your priorities.

From meal data to a useful decision

Comparing UK meal-prep services is partly a data problem and partly a decision-making problem. Someone looking for convenient dinners may not know which calorie range, protein target or delivery format to choose. The product needs to help them express what matters before asking them to filter a database.

KnowDish brings provider and meal information together so people can compare price, nutrition, dietary fit and service format. Personalised matching connects those attributes to the priorities someone brings to the decision.

The product question behind KnowDish

There is no single best meal-prep service for everyone. A recommendation only makes sense in the context of a person’s budget, preferences and constraints. I’m interested in how a comparison product can explain those trade-offs without making people inspect every available data point.

That is the behavioural science question running through this project: how much of the translation between a person’s intentions and a provider’s attributes should the product do for them? My essay below explores what building KnowDish has taught me about cognitive load, ranking and decision support.

Where the project is now

900+ meals across 13 services, provider comparison, meal data, personalised matching, and an expanding longitudinal dataset.
